How We Created a Luxury Campaign and Turned a Candle Brand Into a Lifestyle Experience
An inside look at creative direction, production, and building a lifestyle-led DEFREI campaign
When building a lifestyle brand, the product is only one part of the story. What truly defines it is how it makes people feel.
Since 2023, we’ve worked closely with DEFREI from the very beginning. From pre-launch strategy to campaigns, content, and brand direction, our role has been to shape a visual identity that feels both elevated and intentional.
This campaign was one of the brand’s first major shoots, and from the start, the direction was clear. We didn’t just want to create content. We wanted to create a feeling of calm.
Choosing a Space That Feels Lived In
Instead of shooting in a traditional studio, we chose a real, lived-in environment. We selected House of Logan, a residential-style location that allowed us to move naturally between spaces such as the bedroom, kitchen, and living areas.
Candles exist within moments rather than in isolation, so it was important that every visual felt like a quiet glimpse into someone’s space. The intention was to create something that felt natural and effortless while still remaining elevated.
Creative Direction: Slowing Everything Down
With ten candles in different tones and finishes, our approach was to simplify rather than overcomplicate.
Each scene was built around a sense of stillness. Soft natural light replaced anything too harsh, and compositions were kept intentional and uncluttered. Everyday moments such as preparing matcha or setting up a slow breakfast became the foundation for the visuals. Raw textures like concrete were paired with warmer materials such as wood to create balance.
Rather than focusing purely on trends, we focused on pace. Every frame was designed to feel slower, quieter, and more considered.
Production: Precision in the Details
Every shot was planned in advance to ensure the content could be used across social media, campaigns, and the brand’s website. At the same time, working in a real environment meant adapting constantly to the space.
Styling small objects required a high level of precision. Even the smallest shift in placement could change the entire composition. Light moved differently in each room, mirrors introduced reflections that needed to be managed, and finding new angles in an unfamiliar space required experimentation.
These challenges pushed the process creatively and resulted in a more refined outcome.
Working with Texture, Material, and Mood
A defining element of The Fray is its materiality. The concrete finish gives each candle a raw, sculptural quality that feels grounded yet elevated.
We leaned into this by focusing on texture, light, and subtle contrast. The goal was not to over-style, but to create an environment where the product could exist naturally. Each visual was designed to feel calm, intentional, and unforced, allowing the viewer to pause rather than scroll past.
Capturing a Feeling, Not Just a Product
At its core, DEFREI is about mindfulness, sustainability, and taking a pause. Instead of explaining these values directly, we translated them into visuals.
The compositions were kept minimal, movement was slow and subtle, and every frame was built to feel quiet and sensory. The intention was for the audience to experience a sense of calm through the content, not just observe it.
Translating the Brand Beyond the Product
Alongside the campaign, we created a more experimental, voice-led piece that focused on the deeper story behind the brand.
This piece explored textures, materials, packaging, and the creative development behind the brand. Close-up moments captured the tactile side of the process, from paper and samples to fragrance and form. The visuals were paired with a pre-written voiceover from the founder of DEFREI, creating a narrative that felt personal and reflective.
The result felt more like a visual journal than a traditional campaign video. It offered a quieter perspective on what it means to build a brand with intention, ending with a simple idea that defines the brand. DEFREI is made for you, by you.

The Outcome
This shoot became a strong visual foundation for the brand’s early stages. The styling-led videos resonated particularly well, as they showed how the product could naturally exist within everyday spaces. This balance between aspiration and realism led to strong engagement and a deeper connection with the audience.
The content also supported the brand as it moved into its next phase, including preparing for stockists shortly after.
